Hi, my name’s Tom!
I’m an incredibly Dyspraxic author from Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, UK.
With relief (for my teachers too, I imagine), I left education in 2014, with a degree in Creative Writing, and this is what’s happened since, between day-jobs and too little sleep…
2014 – 2019: Fictional Cumbrian village ‘Grenton’ is born in a series of short stories, introduced to the world by publishers in the UK, US, and Canada.
2020: Debut novel, ‘The Hostiles’, a stand-alone science fiction story, wins Blkdog Book of the Year.
December 2020: My first crime novel is picked up for representation by The Liverpool Literary Agency.
November 2021: Crime novel, a Grenton Village story, is sent out on submission.
I’ve done just about everything one can do with a creative writing degree, other than become a full time author – Copywriter, Publisher, Editor, Literary Agent’s Assistant, Library Worker, Literary Festival Organiser, Teacher, Creative Writing Lecturer, etc – but I feel like I’ve almost reached a time where I can give it a realistic go! It’s what five-year-old Tom, who used to publish a tabloid called Playground News (size 36 font, and blown-up ClipArt), would want.
